Come hear Prof. Robert Forrant of UMass Lowell, whose area of focus is precision manufacturing in the Pioneer Valley, tell the fascinating story of the rise and fall of the Porter McLeod machine shop. Tucked away in rural Hatfield, the company shipped lathes across the country and the globe, surviving for nearly ninety years. Prof. Forrant will be showing many never-before-seen images from a collection that took sixteen years to rescue. The story of how the collection was saved is almost as interesting, and he'll cover some of that also. Stay for ice cream after.
