Douglas Winiarski, Professor of Religious Studies and American Studies at the University of Richmond, will speak on "Faith and Futility in Josiah Cotton's New England, 1700-1760" at the Colonial Society of Massachusetts. Winiarski is author of "Darkness Falls on the Land of Light: Experiencing Religious Awakenings in Eighteenth-Century New England," for which he was awarded the 2018 Bancroft Prize by Columbia University and the 2018 Peter J. Gomes Memorial Book Prize by the Massachusetts Historical Society.
