The American Association for State and Local History celebrates the work enabled by our Scholar in Residence (SIR) grants in their latest issue of History News. Funding like Mass Humanities offers provides “the key to meaningful, innovative, and effective programs, exhibitions, fundraising, and public advocacy,” they write, noting that our SIR grant is often the first step small historical organizations take on the way to bigger initiatives.

Harriet Tubman to Grace the $20
The U.S. Mint will retire slaveholder Andrew Jackson from the front of the $20 to be replaced by Harriet Tubman. Other expected changes include adding leaders of the women’s suffrage movement on the back of the $10 bill and incorporating civil rights era leaders and other important moments in American history into the $5 bill.
