In 2014-2016, Ideas Matter: Checking in with the Public Humanities was a collaborative initiative between seven state humanities councils (Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont) and WAMC Northeast Public Radio (based in Albany, NY). This 10-to-12 minute radio segment aired as part of WAMC’s popular “eclectic” morning show, The Roundtable, on alternating Fridays (10:35-10:50 AM). Its content selected by and rotated among the councils. The series was dedicated to exploring the public humanities and all the many subjects and interests they touch, while also featuring the important work of the councils. In conversation with one or two guests selected by the councils, host Joe Donahue discussed the contours of a project or event created or funded by a council, as well as examined the issues or questions the project raises, and why it matters.
