America Transformed: Teaching Native People in New England and the Americas

April 4 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM EDT

Funded by Mass Humanities
Cost: $20

K-12 and museum educators are invited to participate in this one-day workshop taught by Native educators from Akomawt Educational Initiative. Whether you are teaching Indigenous history within the context of your classroom or connected to the collections of your museum, participants will come away with a common set of vocabulary for teaching about Indigenous people, examine the history of dispossession and mechanisms for survival for Native people and learn about best practices and resources. This workshop will include time in the Leventhal Map Center’s exhibition America Transformed: Mapping the 19th Century, a collaboration with Akomawt that upended Euro-American narratives of westward expansion.
