Calafonas: Music of the Azorean and Portuguese Diaspora (1970–1980) is a transdisciplinary project centered on a documentary, music compilation, exhibition, and public programs. It tells the stories of Azorean and Portuguese immigrant musicians, exploring identity, belonging, and working-class life, while challenging dominant narratives by placing their cultural expressions at the center of conversations on liberty, representation, and resistance. Calafonas is supported by an Expand Massachusetts Stories “Promises of the Revolution” grant.
