A Look Back at Winter 1621

December 2 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EST

Funded by Mass Humanities
Cost: Free

This program is supported by a grant from the Bridge Street Fund, a special initiative of Mass Humanities.

2021 marks the anniversary of the famous event known as the First Thanksgiving. As the year progresses join Plimoth Patuxet Museums’ Deputy Executive Director and Chief Historian, Richard Pickering, in a series of Lunch & Learn lectures as he chronicles the Pilgrims’ first year in New England. This month’s focus will be Winter 1621.

Not long after the First Thanksgiving the Fortune arrived carrying the Pilgrims’ friend, Robert Cushman, along with many young men. Just a few weeks later it returned with Cushman carrying personal and business letters. However, some of the papers never made it to England because the ship was captured by French pirates. The surviving chronicle was printed in London and is known as Mourt’s Relation. All the while a new threat emerged in Plymouth that required swift action from the colonial leaders. Richard Pickering will explore these pivotal moments in Plymouth Colony’s history that capped off a year of survival in the Pilgrims’ new home.

Options of Online or In-person available and made free through a generous grant from the Bridge Street Fund, a special initiative of Mass Humanities.
