On Sunday, August 9, at 1 p.m., the public is invited to “Of Thee I Sing: A Musical Tour of U.S. History” at the Hawley Meeting House at 332 East Hawley Road in Hawley. After a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, soprano Tinky Weisblat, pianist Jerry Noble, and Hawley teen Landon Clark will present and contextualize songs that reflect different political and social currents over the past 250 years in this country. A local historian will also speak briefly about Colonel Edmund Longley, a Revolutionary War hero who settled in Hawley in 1780. Singing along will be encouraged on songs ranging from “Yankee Doodle” to “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” This free concert is part of Museum on Main Street: More Voices, More Votes at Mohawk Trail Regional School and coincides with Hawley’s annual reunion, Hawley Day. It is funded in part by local cultural councils and Mass Humanities.
