Shalupe Community Alliance will host a public, intergenerational reading and culturally sensitive discussion of Frederick Douglass’s speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” The event is designed specifically for U.S.-born girls from African immigrant families and their African-born mothers, using the humanities as a bridge to explore identity, freedom, belonging, and intergenerational understanding.
