The Citizen’s Senate: Women’s Fight for Suffrage program premiere and panel discussion

January 21 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM EST

Funded by Mass Humanities
Cost: Free

On January 21, 2020, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate will be hosting a premier event for its new educational series, The Citizen’s Senate. This series is designed to highlight key moments in American history when the people of the United States have compelled the Senate, “the world’s greatest deliberative body,” to act.  For the first installment in this series, the Institute is examining the struggles and ultimate success of the final decade of the suffrage movement.  The event will include a performance of the program, a combination of archival footage and live performance, in the Institute’s full-scale replica of the Senate Chamber.  Following the program, there will be a moderated panel discussion featuring local scholars revolving around the larger history of the suffrage movement as well as the continued importance of activism on behalf of voting rights today.
