An Anthology of Writing by Students of the Clemente Course
Year after year, the graduates of the Clemente Course in the Humanities give us hope—for the humanities and for our nation. We, Too, Are America is a collection of stories from these inspiring humanists.
In the summer of 2020, the United States faced a global pandemic, nationwide protests against police brutality, and a fractured political landscape. In Dorchester, New Bedford, Springfield and Worcester, graduates of the Clemente Course in the Humanities responded to the turmoil with original essays that reflected their experiences and views on the country, our democracy, and their communities. Published by Mass Humanities, We, Too, Are America captures their unique perspectives on this tumultuous time. The anthology includes a foreword by Danielle Allen.
The book is available through Harvard Book Store. All proceeds support the Clemente Course in Massachusetts. The cover artwork features a quilted portrait of Langston Hughes by Lesyslie Rackard, a Clemente graduate and contributor to the book.
