Revisiting 1971

This International Women’s Day, witness Boston’s feminist history

The Mass Humanities-funded documentary film Left on Pearl highlights a significant but little-known chapter in the heyday of the Women’s Liberation Movement. The film captures the events of March 8th, 1971; catch its debut screening exactly 45 years later.

GI Jews

Telling the stories of the 550,000 Jewish Americans who served

Less than 6% of World War II veterans are alive today and GI Jews captures their rapidly disappearing stories on film. Thanks to a Social Media Outreach Grant from Mass Humanities, those stories are being told in all possible formats: Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, YouTube, and their own site.

Belmont World Film celebrates 15 years

A major cultural event, the Belmont World Film Festival, kicks off March 20th with the support of Mass Humanities. The award-winning and groundbreaking international films being screened will be paired with discussions, cultural performances, and ethnic cuisine.

Song of Hope

A Song of Hope

Jane Crow was Pauli Murray’s term for the double discrimination faced by black women. Her life was spent in defiance of that concept and is documented in the Mass Humanities funded film The Price of Survival.

Latina Legacy

Wistariahurst Museum opens their much-anticipated show Nuestras Abuelas on March 5th. Meet the curator, participants, and scholars who contributed to this Mass Humanities supported exhibit. Bring your grandmother along and add her voice to the collection using the oral history equipment that will be on hand.
