Graduation Season
More Clemente Course graduates cross the stage than ever before
We now offer the Clemente Course in five cities across the Commonwealth and with our growing capacity comes a more profound impact. Eighty students will graduate from the course this year, twice the number as last year. A class of 15 earned their certificates from the course’s inaugural year in Springfield and our second-youngest site, Worcester, thundered forward with 19 grads.

Our Reading Frederick Douglass program is growing ever larger. This year, his profound words will be read in communities spanning the state, from Adams to Martha’s Vineyard. Nantucket Mourns Captain Absalom Boston
Captain Boston led an all-black crew on the whaleship Industry during a time when black men were relegated to lower positions. His leadership continued on land and became a successful businessman whose advocacy helped to integrate the island’s schools. He died a beloved and revered man on this day in 1855.
