We at Mass Humanities are thrilled to share “Building Blocks of Democracy,” a fun origami cube highlighting nine incredible individuals from Massachusetts history. The cube is the perfect to take home and share with friends and family after you visit one of our Museum on Main Street host sites in 2025 or 2026.

The Smithsonian’s “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” exhibit provides a national perspective on voting rights and democracy. Our six host sites create events and programs to tell the local story. “Building Blocks of Democracy” fills in the picture by providing the state-level viewpoint.

In this brief video, Marie Pellissier, program officer at Mass Humanities, explains how you can share your own hero of democracy with us. After watching, visit our “Building Blocks of Democracy” web page for in-depth bios and additional images of our nine historical figures.
